Can NYC offer municipal broadband like Chattanooga, Tennessee? http://chattanoogagig.com/ Would this help grow the NYC economy and create more innovation?

  1. @drronsuarez: Take a look at my proposal on Municipal Copper, that could be a 1st step to municipal broadband: http://nytechmeetup.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Metropolitan-copper/377294-22310

  2. The city *has* municipal broadband. It was part of the deal with Verizon for FIOS. VZ had to make a network for the City. It was decided that this network would not be made available to the public, only City agencies.

  3. An excellent Moyers & Company episode with Susan Crawford, on her new book Captive Audience: The Telecom Industry and Monopoly Power in the New Gilded Age, that includes info on a successful municipal broadband initiative led by a Louisiana Mayor. http://billmoyers.com/segment/susan-crawford-on-why-u-s-internet-access-is-slow-costly-and-unfair/
